Sixth Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™/Las Vegas Spring Festival
Hosts Holiday Activities with Weekend Celebration

Chinese New Year is recognized as the most important Chinese holiday and is known as “Spring Festival” in China, “Tet New Year” in Vietnam and “Seol-lal” in Korea. Chinese New Year in the Desert™ will be held in multiple locations Jan. 27–29, 2017. Participating venues include: Fashion Show Mall, Downtown Container Park, and The LINQ Theater.The sixth annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ will celebrate the Year of the Rooster. Forbes Magazine named Las Vegas as one of the “8 Great Places to Celebrate Chinese New Year” in the United States and Canada. Major sponsors for the 2017 celebration include: Fashion Show Mall, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Golden Catalyst, LLC.

Dragon Dance and Cultural Performances
Friday, Jan. 27, 6 – 8 p.m.
Usher in the New Year by participating in the opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting. Guests will be taken on a journey to China as they experience cultural performances by the Sichuan Song and Dance Theater Company on the Runway. The New Year will be greeted with a live authentic dragon dance and an eye painting ceremony by Las Vegas Lohan School of Shaolin.

Las Vegas Spring Festival Parade, After Party, Lunar Lantern Festival, and Wishing Tree
Saturday, Jan. 28, 11 a.m. (Parade); 12 – 6 p.m. (After Party)
Local businesses, organizations, bands, and dance groups will come together to celebrate by showcasing their talent and creativity with the most extravagant floats in vibrant colors to commemorate the rich history of the most important holiday of the Asian community. Immediately following the parade will be an after party at Downtown Container Park, an open-air shopping center filled with boutique retail shops, unique restaurants, live entertainment, an interactive playground featuring The Treehouse and various other free activities brought to you by CNY in the Desert™ Sponsors. Guests and passersby are invited to build their own complimentary lantern and toss red ribbons up into the wishing tree for good fortune in the coming year. The Lunar Lantern Festival and Wishing Tree are sponsored by Palm Eastern Mortuary.

DragonFest Benefit Concert
Sunday, Jan. 29, 2 – 4 p.m.
The concert will feature solo and group numbers from a variety of local and international Chinese troupe. Concert proceeds will be contributed to the J.D. Miller Middle School and the Sichuan Song and Dance Theater Company.
